In the winter of 1979, Bob Dausman invited a group of parents to his home for what he called "a total soccer organization." George Hoff — then president of the Mississippi Youth Soccer Association — came to listen. The conversation moved fast: complaints, requests, commitments. By the end, the group had a plan for a club that would offer separate leagues for beginners, advanced players, and junior high players. Coaching education. Referee regulation. Affiliation with the state and regional associations.
Twelve founders drew up the charter. Charter of Incorporation filed May 30, 1980. Jerry Jindrich designed the logo. Green was chosen as the league's color. H.C. Bailey Company donated the first site — at the intersection of Old Canton Road and Northtown Road, behind the Super Jitney.
The club expected 300 children that first season. 525 signed up. Founders and volunteers spent many hours mowing and chalking off the fields, often until late in the day. The fields were rough. There were port-a-johns and a portable concession hut. Parking spilled into the lots of nearby businesses, who started to put out signs reading "NO SOCCER PARKING." Soccer enthusiasts didn't care. NEJSO — the Northeast Jackson Soccer Organization — was alive and kicking.
